Chapter 110: Start of the War
Chapter 110: Start of the War
A week passed in a flash, and the first real war between the Soul Cross Sect and the Inferno Sect was about to start.
Disciples from all over the sect had gathered together at the grassland.
They assembled into formations under the lead of their respective Elders, awaiting the arrival of their enemies.
"Where is Soul Peak?" Someone asked, looking around curiously.
All the divisions of the sect had gathered, yet there was no sign of the sect’s strongest forces.
"They will come." Another person replied.
Then, they all felt it. The vast grassland trembled.
It began with a single ripple. Blades of green grass bending under an unseen pressure, before the sky itself seemed to darken beneath a suffocating heat.
Then came the hot flames.
"Formation!"
A thunderous voice echoed across the battlefield as dozens of Inferno Sect disciples surged forward, their robes blazing with crimson light. Fire gathered in their palms, coiling like serpents eager to be unleashed.
From the opposing side, the Soul Cross Sect stood firm.
Five distinct formations, originating from the five peaks of the sect.
"Winter Peak! Advance!
At the front, the temperature dropped instantly.
Frost spread across the ground, creeping like a living entity as dozens of Winter Peak disciples raised their hands. Ice spears formed in the air, shimmering with a deadly chill.
"Release!"
The first clash began.
Ice and fire collided midair, erupting into violent steam that swallowed the battlefield in a dense white haze. The ground cracked under the pressure, heat and cold warring for dominance.
Boom!
A massive fireball tore through the mist, crashing into the Winter Peak’s formation and sending several disciples flying.
"Hold the line!" One of them shouted, blood trickling from his lips as he forced another wave of frost outward.
Behind them, the battlefield shifted.
"Summer Peak, forward!"
Earth trembled as massive walls rose from the ground, shielding advancing disciples. Flames wrapped around the stone structures, turning them into blazing fortresses.
Inferno Sect disciples met them head-on.
Explosions rang out as fire techniques collided—pure flames against flame-infused earth. The air distorted from the sheer heat.
Above them...
"Cloud Peak, suppress!"
Figures shot into the sky, wind swirling violently around their bodies. Blades of compressed air rained down, slicing through incoming fire techniques and striking at the Inferno Sect ranks.
"Pathetic tricks!"
An Inferno Elder stepped forward, his aura erupting like a miniature sun. His eyes blazed with anger, and he decided to get rid of these annoying ones by himself.
"METEOR SHOWER!"
The sky turned red. Dozens—no, hundreds—of flaming masses formed overhead before descending with terrifying speed.
The battlefield froze for a split second.
Then chaos erupted.
"Solstice Peak disciples—now!" Elder Wang shouted urgently, joining them to resist the attack.
Water surged upward, merging with violent winds to form massive spiraling currents. The incoming meteors struck the storm, exploding into bursts of steam and fire that shook the heavens.
Yet... it wasn’t enough.
Several blazing meteors broke through.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ground shattered. Disciples screamed as shockwaves tore through formations, scattering both sides alike.
From the rear, the Elders finally moved.
"Hmph! He dares to launch an attack against my people? I’ll handle him. You take on the rest."
A calm voice, yet it carried across the entire battlefield. This was Elder Solace, the man who was always smiling faintly.
Soul Cross Sect Elders stepped forward, and the air itself seemed to grow heavier.
One raised his hand, and the wind stopped.
Another stepped forward, and the flames bent unnaturally.
The spiritual pressure of King Stage cultivators washed over the battlefield.
These were the true monsters of the battlefield.
"Do you think you alone hold such power?" an Inferno Elder sneered, stepping out to meet them.
The moment their auras collided, the sky split with a thunderous crack.
A massive shockwave blasted outward, flattening grass for hundreds of meters. Even Core disciples were forced to retreat, unable to withstand the pressure.
Below, the battlefield descended further into chaos.
Inner Court disciples clashed violently, techniques exploding in every direction. Fire arrows pierced through wind barriers. Ice spikes erupted beneath unsuspecting enemies.
A Core disciple from the Summer Peak slammed his palm into the ground.
"EARTHFALL IGNITION!"
The terrain beneath dozens of Inferno Sect disciples cracked open, molten fire bursting from within. Screams echoed as several were engulfed instantly.
But retaliation came just as swiftly.
"Burn them all!"
A group of Inferno Core disciples unleashed a combined technique, their flames merging into a roaring inferno that swept forward like a tidal wave.
Everything in its path burned to ashes, humans included.
Far at the edge of the battlefield, a wounded Inner Court disciple staggered backward, his breathing ragged.
"Where... where is Soul Peak...?" He muttered in desperation.
He watched as another wave of Inferno Sect disciples surged forward, their flames relentless.
"We’re... losing..."
It wasn’t a complete collapse, but it was clear. Even if the elders could contend with each other, the Soul Cross Sect disciples were outnumbered.
The Inferno Sect’s aggression was overwhelming.
Even with their versatility, the Soul Cross Sect was being pushed back, step by step.
"Fall back!" Someone shouted in panic.
"No—hold position!"
Confusion spread among the disciples, and in that moment of hesitation, a massive pillar of fire erupted from the center of the battlefield.
An Inferno Elder stood within it, his expression cold.
"You’ve delayed this long enough."
He raised his hand slowly.
The flames around him intensified, rising higher... hotter... denser.
"This ends now."
The pressure alone forced dozens of disciples to their knees.
Even the Soul Cross Sect Elders frowned.
That spiritual pressure...
Then, the wind stopped, and the temperature plummeted to a dangerous degree.
The flames flickered, and the raging inferno wavered.
A strange silence fell over the battlefield.
Even the ongoing clashes seemed to falter as an inexplicable pressure descended.
"That old hag...? No, it’s different."
The Inferno Elder’s expression shifted for the first time.
From the distance
Three figures appeared, followed by hundreds of disciples. They didn’t rush, and neither did they hide their presence.
They simply moved across the battlefield. No one moved to stop them.
The ground beneath their feet remained untouched by the chaos. Flames parted. Wind avoided them. Even the lingering frost seemed to retreat.
At the center was a young man with flowing white hair and bright rainbow eyes.
To his left, a beautiful woman draped in wine robes, her presence suffocating.
To his right, a younger lady walked silently, her gaze sweeping across the battlefield with quiet indifference.
The moment their feet touched the center of the war-torn land, everything changed.
An unnerving silence settled on the battlefield.
Even the Inferno Elder’s flames died down slightly, as though suppressed by something unseen.
One of the Soul Cross Sect Elders narrowed his eyes.
"...Soul Peak."
