Chapter 99: Declaration of War

Chapter 99: Declaration of War

According to Sylvia, the situation had genuinely worsened. The Inferno Sect was furious about the massacre Seraph had caused, directly demanding that he be handed over to them with a hundred thousand gold spirit crystals, and three hundred thousand silver spirit crystals.

Naturally, the Soul Cross Sect wouldn’t agree to such outrageous demands. No sane sect would accept such a thing.

Faced with their denial, the Inferno Sect grew bolder and declared war on the Soul Cross Sect, directly labelling them as enemies.

To avoid casualties, Song had decided to send her maids back to their houses in case the sect lost.

Seraph digested the information with a frown, then asked. "So they haven’t heard anything from the Sect Master yet?"

Sylvia nodded and explained. "Apparently, the Sect Master has gone missing for about two or three years now. And nobody knows why."

"Could he have been assassinated or something?" He asked casually.

"Eh? That’s impossible." Sylvia hurriedly shook her head, strongly disagreeing with him.

"Hm? You sure have a great faith in him. Is he really that strong?"

She smiled and looked around. After confirming that it was only two of them, she leaned to his ear and whispered.

"Most elders believe that he’s at the Sage Stage. No one in the entire Orchid Province has that level of strength."

Seraph frowned, still not understanding. So instead, he asked Halo.

’How great is a Sage Stage expert?’

It dutifully replied. ["The Sage Stage is beyond the Mortal Realms—meaning that person has become a transcendent much more powerful than you can imagine. If a Sage Stage expert were to appear here, it would only take a few minutes to level the entire sect to the ground."]

’Oh. That’s... wow.’

He hummed, curling his fists gently.

"Do you get now? The Sect Master is a total deterrence to other sects, but his absence now is giving us a dilemma. We have no choice but to go to war with the Inferno Sect." Sylvia said, placing her hands on her hips.

"Alright." Seraph nodded, then asked. "Where is Elder Song?"

The girl blinked. "Oh, right! They’re currently having a meeting at the peak to decide the final stance of the sect on this war."

"Is that so? They better come to a conclusion quickly."

Sighing, Seraph yawned and returned to the room.

At the top of the Soul Peak lied the Sect Master’s palace. It was grand, awe-inspiring, glamorous, and flattery-incurring.

Below it was another building built on the mountain. This one didn’t belong to anyone, but was instead used for meetings and meaningful events.

Today, all the notable elders from the five peaks were gathered together in this building, having a serious conversation.

"I don’t agree with you, Song."

Someone said, his thick voice washing over the meeting grimly.

This caused the woman to turn to the familiar figure, who had said he disagreed with her.

"Go on, Thane."

Thane was an elder brother to Elder Tarus—the man who had represented Summer Peak during the disciple selection six years ago.

Thane looked at her and answered. "As much as I also want to go to war against these bastards, I can’t bear the risk of pushing the whole sect into the deadly ordeal."

Tian, the female elder from Winter Peak, sneered. "Are you saying you’re scared to fight?"

Thane glanced at her, then ignored her completely. "You do understand what I’m saying, right? Song?"

She sighed, nodding. "Yes, I understand you. But we have no choice. Whether we want it or not, our disciples will still have to face them in combat. So why not just go all out from the beginning, instead of letting them wear us down in our own home."

The man fell silent, considering her words properly. Everyone at the table did the same, and soon enough, a gentle looking elder from the Cloud Peak spoke.

"Let me ask, though. If we go to war now, and the Sect Master comes back... can we handle his thoughts about it? The Sect Master is very peculiar about following his commands. You know that."

Song turned to him, her expression hardened. "You’re right, Solace. The Sect Master can be very cruel, but I believe he would understand. We are currently pushed to the wall. If we don’t fight back aggressively, then we’ll only be killing ourselves."

He nodded in understanding and fell silent.

Gradually, everyone at the table began agreeing with Song’s choice of fighting back against the Inferno Sect and to stop being on the defensive.

"Although I’m a bit weak, I have to agree with Senior Sister Song. If we let them harrass us for long, then the other sects might view us as weak and might want to attack us. We have to show them that we aren’t cowards. Right, Grand Elder?"

Everyone turned to look at the white-haired woman who sat in the room with her eyes closed.

It was as if she wasn’t present for the discussion, but at the same time, she was there.

Hearing her title being called, she slowly opened her eyes to look at Elder Wang who had spoken.

The man stiffened, though he still tried to maintain the easy-going smile on his face.

Elder Mei shifted her gaze from him, looked around, and closed her eyes. The next moment, she gave a single statement that ended all their discussion.

"War. With my authority as the Grand Elder, I declare the Inferno Sect as an enemy of our Soul Cross Sect."

Everyone in the room trembled, regardless of who they were. If there was someone who was second to the Sect Master, it was the Mad Grand Elder, Mei.

Now that she had given her verdict, there was no going back. Elder Wang smiled, seeing that his plan had succeeded.

He had heard about the issue of the Inferno Sect kidnapping a few Winter Peak disciples, and he knew that it would surely be a trigger to the old woman.

’I heard that talented young girl was part too. I can’t believe I was the one who oversaw their entrance exam years ago. Although this Song woman snatched the best guy from me, it is still good that he’s in our sect. This war must definitely be won!’

His eyes revealed a sharp glint.
